👋 Hi, Sabir here. Welcome to this week’s issue of Chino - simplifying Men’s fashion to help you dress well & look dapper!
The biggest lesson I’ve learnt about Men’s fashion is:
You have to be bold in your colour choices.
Before taking an interest in style and fashion, my dress sense was bland and boring!
Most of my wardrobe was made up of varying shades of black and blue.
I have to be honest, it was pretty dreadful.
Today, I’m extremely comfortable and confident in wearing lighter colours. White, beige, oatmeal and light grey have become my firm favourites.
They stand out well during this time of year.
While the days outside tend to be darker and colder, lighter colours are anything but.
They help your style to stand out.
I’m not saying to get rid of your black & navy clothes altogether. In fact, I still have mine and do wear them occasionally. Just not all of the time.
This is a key point - don’t stick to the same colours all year round.
Allow your wardrobe to embrace a range of colours so that you can become adaptable throughout the seasons.
Here’s an example of a light-coloured outfit I wore the other week for a walk 👇
It was chilly that day, so I wrapped up warm! This is what I wore (click on links for more info):
From ‘New Look’
👉 Grey Marl Jersey Cuffed Leg Joggers
From ‘H&M’
From ‘Office’
👉 Binley Survival Sneaker Beige Suede Boots

Create Your Own Style
While there are certain basic principles to dressing well, there is also huge room for versatility.
In the previous to last picture, did you notice how I swapped my usual chinos for a pair of joggers?
This was the first time I’ve ever fused a very casual piece with a smart/casual outfit.
I think it works very well, especially with the beige boots.
Similarly, permit yourself to add tweaks to your outfits. They don’t all have to look exactly the way you’ve seen them advertised elsewhere.
If you do find yourself wanting to copy a complete outfit that you’ve seen, that’s also fine. No problem at all.
Because remember, every one of us has unique characteristics (height, weight, build, features, etc) which all contribute to how an outfit looks.
A certain outfit may complement you in one way, and in another way for someone else.
This is what ultimately determines your style. It’s in the way you rock it!
Here are a few examples of outfits that incorporate lighter colours. Perhaps they’ll inspire you! 👇
The Chino Verdict: Am a big fan of these coats in the winter.
This camel one is paired very well with the grey checked trousers.
Notice how they are rolled up at the bottom which gives them more of a casual look.
This simple trick allows them to look great against the sneakers.
The off-white jumper is also a great contrast to the coat and trousers.
As for the bag, not a fan of them at all! 🤷♂️
The Chino Score: 7/10 (would have been an 8 if it weren’t for the bag!)
The Chino Verdict: I think this outfit is very dapper indeed!
The off-white coat looks extremely elegant against the grey turtle neck.
My favourite piece is the oatmeal trousers which also work so well with the coat. The entire outfit is spot on!
I never would have thought that a black hat would complement this light outfit. But somehow, it works fantastically!
The Chino Score: 9/10
The Chino Verdict: This is perhaps the perfect winter outfit!
Firstly, because it includes white chinos which I believe should be a must in your wardrobe for Winter & Spring.
Then we have a fabulous looking cable knit turtle neck sweater in oatmeal. This goes extremely well with the chinos.
We also see a bit of clever discreet layering. Can you notice the oatmeal cardigan worn over the sweater? great for keeping warm! 🥶
And to complete the outfit, an awesome dark orange/brown hooded parka jacket.
Out of all three outfits, this one is my favourite. Perhaps because it incorporates earth tones throughout. These are great colours for this time of year.
The Chino Score: 10/10
That’s a wrap for this week!
