If there’s one stylish look that is not worn enough by gents, it’s the hoody and coat combination.

You may have seen hoodies worn with other casual jackets (denim, bombers, etc). This is fine for a very casual look.

However, if you want to move yourself up a few notches on the style barometer, you certainly can’t go wrong with combining your hoodies with a full-length coat.

While the hoody is known as a casual piece, it transforms into a super-dapper look when worn underneath a long coat.

How? It’s the perfect fusion of a smart piece (coat) with a casual one (hoody). Combine them, and voila! You have an ever-so-stylish look.

The Versatility Factor

Hoodies and coats are two of the most versatile and comfortable pieces of clothing that you can have in your wardrobe, especially in the colder months.

But what happens when you want to wear both at the same time?

Here are some of my suggestions on how you can wear hoodies with coats for a stylish and functional look.

1. Layer a Hoodie Under a Coat (my personal favourite)

The simplest and most straightforward way to wear a hoodie with a coat is to layer the hoodie under the coat.

Choose a hoodie in a neutral colour such as black, white, or grey and layer it under a statement coat. Or, you can also do this the other way around (statement hoody with a neutral colour coat).

A longline coat will add a touch of sophistication to your outfit while keeping you warm.

2. Go for a Matching Set

Matching sets have been a huge trend in fashion recently, and hoodies and coats are no exception.

Look for a hoodie and coat set in the same colour (or two varying shades from the same colour) for a cohesive look. This is a great option if you want to make a statement while staying warm.

Just make sure your pants aren’t the same colour too!

3. Mix and Match Textures

Hoodies and coats come in a variety of textures, so why not play around with them?

Mixing and matching textures add interest to your outfit.

You could pair a fleece hoodie with a trench coat for a cosy and stylish look. Or, you can opt for a leather hoodie with a wool coat for a more edgy vibe.
